The activity of cafeterias, bars and restaurants is suspended, which, however, will be able to make take-away and home-delivered food.

Areas of department stores that are not dedicated to essential food and hygiene products are closed off

When will the regulations be implemented?

Wednesday, January 13 The Govern de les Illes Balears reinforces the measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 contagions in Mallorca. The Consell de Govern approves these restrictions, which affect the activity of restoration, commercial and gyms.

Why is the Balearic Government reinforcing measures against COVID?

The spokeswoman of the Government explained that these limitations respond to the unfavorable evolution of the epidemiological indicators, which place the Balearic Islands in a situation of extreme risk, and to the need to cut the contagions and preserve the response capacity of the health system.

In January 2021, the island of Mallorca is at level 4 alert with curfew at 22.00 hours, especially to avoid activities that may cause crowds or situations in which the rules and recommendations to prevent contagion are not respected correctly.

Cafeterias, bars and restaurants

Specifically, it has been deemed appropriate and proportionate to suspend the activity of cafes, bars and restaurants, which will only be able to provide home delivery service (until 24h) and takeaway food (until 22h).

Exceptions:

  • Hotel restaurants, for the exclusive use of guests staying there.
  • Restaurants and cafeterias of health centers and services, school canteens.
  • Restaurants in training centers, for the exclusive use of the personnel working in them.

In terms of commercial activity

Large surfaces(stores of more than 700 m2 in Mallorca and 400 m2 in Ibiza) will have to remain closed, except for supermarkets, keeping the capacity at 30% of their capacity and forcing them to reduce their parking lots to 50%.

If they share suspended activities with other activities that are not suspended, it must be clearly delimited so that the customer perceives the prohibition to buy.

Small commerce(stores of more than 700 m2 in Mallorca and 400 m2 in Ibiza), however, continues as before, with a capacity of 30% and closing at 20.00 hours, except for gas stations, essential commerce (food, drinks, hygiene products, etc.), pharmacies, orthopedics, opticians, telecommunications, hairdressers, esthetics, veterinary centers, gardening and sale and maintenance of motor vehicles.

Facilities must reduce their parking capacity to 50%.

Products ordered or reserved prior to Wednesday, January 13, 2021 may be picked up and home delivery is permitted.

Likewise, the activity of gyms and spas is suspended.

Cultural and recreational activities

On-site cultural activities are prohibited, with the exception of theaters, auditoriums, cinemas and circuses , reducing their capacity to 30% of their seating capacity. The consumption of food and beverages during such activities is prohibited.

The measures will take effect on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 and will be in effect, IN PRINCIPLE, until January 30.

In Confialia we will keep you duly informed of the regulations that may affect your business. It is clear that the Balearic Government does not know very well what to do to stop the spread of the pandemic, we can see in the coming days any kind of decision.
